   An act to amend Section 10504 of the Government Code, relating to
state audits.


	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   AB 1493, as introduced, Keeley.  State audits: Auditor General.
   Existing law specifies a procedure for selection of an Auditor
General by concurrent resolution after a recommendation by the Joint
Legislative Audit Committee.
   This bill would make a technical, clarifying change to these
provisions.
   Vote:  majority.  Appropriation:  no.  Fiscal committee:  no.
State-mandated local program:  no.


THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:


  SECTION 1.  Section 10504 of the Government Code is amended to
read:
   10504.  After recommendation by the committee, the Auditor General
shall be selected by concurrent resolution and shall serve until his
or her successor is selected or until  his or her removal
  he or she is removed  by concurrent resolution.
When the Legislature is not in session, the committee may suspend the
Auditor General until the Legislature reconvenes.  When the
Legislature is in session, the committee may suspend the Auditor
General for a period not to exceed 30 days.  When there is a vacancy
in the office of Auditor General, the Chairman of the Joint
Legislative Audit Committee shall select an acting Auditor General
until an Auditor General is selected by the Legislature.  The
committee shall fix the salary of the Auditor General, deputies, and
staff.  The funds for the support of the committee shall be provided
from the Contingent Funds of the Assembly and Senate in the same
manner that those funds are made available to other joint committees
of the Legislature.
