An act to add Section 44859.5 of the Education Code, relating to
public school teachers.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
SB 715, as introduced, Haynes. Public school teachers: pupil
attendance.
Under existing law, a person between the ages of 6 and 18 years
who is not exempted is subject to compulsory full-time education.
This bill would require, notwithstanding any other provision of
law, any certificated employee who is employed by a public school to
enroll his or her children who are of compulsory school attendance
age in a public school in the district where the teacher is employed,
in the nearest public school district to the employee's employing
district that offers instruction for the appropriate grade level, or
in the public school district of the pupil's place of residency.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Section 44859.5 is added to the Education Code, to
read:
44859.5. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, any
certificated employee who is employed by a public school shall enroll
his or her children who are of compulsory school attendance age in a
public school in the school district where the teacher is employed,
in the nearest public school district to the employee's employing
district that offers instruction for the appropriate grade level, or
in the public school district of the pupil's place of residency.
