LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 2409, Jackson. Emergency notification systems. Existing law requires the Office of Emergency Services to conduct various investigations regarding the use of television and radio broadcast stations for transmitting emergency information to the public during an emergency. This bill would require that the office conduct a study of the emergency notification systems at California television and radio broadcast stations to determine the ability of these stations to notify the public of emergency situations 24 hours a day. It would require the office to report its findings and any recommendations for improving the system to the Legislature no later than July 1, 2003. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 8593.4 is added to the Government Code, to read: 8593.4. (a) The Office of Emergency Services shall conduct a study of the emergency notification systems at California television and radio broadcast stations to determine the ability of these stations to notify the public of emergency situations 24 hours a day. (b) The office shall report its findings and any recommendations for improving the system to the Legislature no later than July 1, 2003.
