ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON RULES
Joe Nation, Chair
ACR 77 (Simitian) - As Introduced: March 27, 2003
SUBJECT : National Library Week
SUMMARY : Acknowledges the celebration of National Library Week
commencing April 6, 2003, applauds the positive and vital impact
of public libraries, librarians, and other library workers, and
thanks them for enriching the lives of residents and helping to
make our state and exceptional place to live, learn, and work.
Specifically, this resolution makes the following legislative
findings:
1)National Library Week is being celebrated in public libraries
throughout California from April 6 through April 12, 2003.
2)Our state's public libraries offer computers, Internet access,
e-mail reference, and other innovative services to connect
their users with ideas and information; and provide technology
training for patrons of all ages to help bridge the "digital
divide" for those who do not have access to technology at home
or school.
3)Public libraries preserve our cultural heritage, inform, and
inspire; and provide equal and economical services and, in
many cases, serve as a community's only public point of access
to resources for learning.
4)More than 19 million people use California's public libraries
annually.
