LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 513, Matthews. Juries: peace officers. Existing law exempts certain peace officers from jury panels sent to courtrooms for voir dire in civil and criminal matters, and other specified peace officers from jury panels sent to courtrooms for voir dire in criminal matters. This bill would require the Judicial Council, on or before January 1, 2005, to adopt a rule of court to establish procedures for jury service to give scheduling accommodations to specified peace officers. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 219.5 is added to the Code of Civil Procedure, to read: 219.5. The Judicial Council shall adopt a rule of court, on or before January 1, 2005, requiring the trial courts to establish procedures for jury service that gives peace officers, as defined by Section 830.5 of the Penal Code, scheduling accommodations when necessary.
