   An act to add Section 323 to the Military and Veterans Code,
relating to military compensation.


	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   AB 690, Saldana  National Guard: weapons of mass destruction civil
support team.
   Existing law provides certain protection and benefits for members
of the National Guard and reservists called to active duty, as
specified.
   This bill would authorize a state retention bonus in the amount of
$2,000 to be awarded annually to a member of the California National
Guard Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team, as specified,
provided that the member is a certified hazardous materials
specialist or technician.


THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:


  SECTION 1.  Section 323 is added to the Military and Veterans Code,
to read:
   323.  (a) A qualified member of the California National Guard
Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team, as certified by the
United States Department of Defense, is eligible to receive an annual
State Retention Bonus in the amount of two thousand dollars ($2,000)
at the completion of each year of service on the team.
   (b) For purposes of this section, "qualified member" means a
member of the California National Guard Weapons of Mass Destruction
Civil Support Team who is certified as a hazardous materials
specialist or technician under the laws of this state.
