LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 368, Evans Technical Education: equipment: sales. Existing law establishes various programs for vocational and career technical education in the public schools. This bill would require the State Department of Education to develop and maintain a registry of career technical education equipment that is listed for sale and make the registry accessible to school districts via an Internet Web site. The bill would authorize a school district that intends to offer for sale any career technical education equipment, including table saws, drafting equipment, or auto diagnostic tools, to list the equipment in the registry established by the department. The bill would require the equipment listed in the registry to be offered for sale in the first instance to other school districts and maintained in the registry for a period of no less than 4 months unless the equipment is purchased, as specified. The bill would require on or before March 1, 2010, the Legislative Analyst to report to the Legislature on the efficacy of the registry and would authorize the Legislative Analyst to submit the report to the Legislature by including it in its annual analysis of the Budget Bill. The bill would repeal those provisions on January 1, 2012. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1.
