   Relative to Hybrid Vehicle Awareness Month.

             HOUSE OR SENATE RESOLUTIONS DO NOT CONTAIN A DIGEST



   WHEREAS, Gasoline prices in the State of California are among the
highest in the country; and
   WHEREAS, The average price of gasoline in California has reached
three dollars ($3) per gallon; and
   WHEREAS, The most fuel efficient hybrid vehicles achieve in excess
of 45 miles per gallon of gasoline, which far exceeds the federal
fuel economy standard of 27.5 miles per gallon for passenger
vehicles; and
   WHEREAS, Switching from a conventional vehicle that runs solely on
gasoline to a hybrid vehicle can significantly improve fuel
efficiency, thereby reducing petroleum demand and foreign oil
dependency; and
   WHEREAS, Of the many decisions consumers make, their choice of
vehicle will have a significant impact on the environment and air
quality; and
   WHEREAS, Increased use of hybrid vehicles can reduce carbon
dioxide emissions; and
   WHEREAS, A study conducted last year concluded that, on average, a
hybrid vehicle reduces life-cycle greenhouse gases by approximately
30 percent compared with a conventional vehicle, and reduces fuel
consumption by an average of 35 percent; and
   WHEREAS, It is estimated that there will be approximately 35
hybrid vehicle model choices available to consumers in 2008 and over
50 models by the year 2012; and
   WHEREAS, According to a recent survey, 86 percent of survey
participants who drive would like more education and information
about hybrid and other alternative fuel vehicles; and
   WHEREAS, Education about hybrid vehicles can raise consumer
awareness, influence consumer choice, and encourage further
development of transportation choices; now, therefore, be it
   Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the
month of November 2007 is hereby officially designated Hybrid Vehicle
Awareness Month; and be it further
   Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly shall transmit
copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
