   Relative to Take Your Dog to Work Day.

   ACR 103, as introduced, Plescia. Take Your Dog to Work Day.
   This measure would designate June 20th as Take Your Dog to Work
Day, and would encourage employers to make their workplaces pet
friendly.
   Fiscal committee: no.



   WHEREAS, Pet Sitters International created "Take Your Dog to Work
Day" in 1999 to celebrate the great companions that dogs make, and to
emphasize their philosophy that every pet should be a wanted pet;
and
   WHEREAS, Studies show that pets in the workplace boost employee
morale and productivity; a 2006 survey indicated that millions of
employees felt that having their pets in the workplace lead to a more
creative environment, decreased absenteeism, and more collegiality;
and
   WHEREAS, Days like Bring your Child to Work Day and Family Day are
extremely successful in changing the attitudes of those who
participate; people who love their dogs and consider them part of
their family should be able to enjoy the same gratification from
having their pets accompany them to work; and
   WHEREAS, Take Your Dog to Work Day will be a chance to celebrate
the wonderful relationships between humans and their dogs; and
   WHEREAS, Take Your Dog to Work Day will promote and encourage pet
adoptions from humane societies, animal shelters and breed rescue
clubs, which are vital institutions in California; and
   WHEREAS, Caring and responsible pet owners should be recognized;
now, therefore, be it
   Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
thereof concurring,That June 20, 2008, shall be designated as Take
Your Dog to Work Day and that employers are encouraged to make their
workplaces pet friendly; and be it further
   Resolved,That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of
this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
