   An act to add Section 204.5 to the Code of Civil Procedure,
relating to jury service.


	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   AB 1828, as introduced, Huff. Jury service: precinct workers.
   Under existing court rules adopted by the Judicial Council, a
prospective juror who has served on a grand or trial jury or was
summoned and appeared for jury service in any state or federal court
during the previous 12 months must be excused from service upon
request.
   This bill would excuse from jury service, upon request, a
prospective juror who has served in this state during the previous 12
months on a statewide or local election day as a precinct officer or
precinct board member.
   Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.


THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  SECTION 1.  Section 204.5 is added to the Code of Civil Procedure,
to read:
   204.5.  Notwithstanding Section 204, a prospective juror who has
served in this state during the previous 12 months on a statewide or
local election day as a precinct officer or precinct board member
shall be excused from jury service upon request.
