   An act to add Section 14006.7 to the Welfare and Institutions
Code, relating to Medi-Cal.


	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   SB 483, as introduced, Kuehl. Medi-Cal: eligibility.
   Existing law provides for the Medi-Cal program, which is
administered by the State Department of Health Care Services, and
which provides health care services to qualified low-income
recipients. Existing law establishes various criteria for eligibility
for Medi-Cal benefits. The Medi-Cal program is partially governed
and funded by federal Medicaid provisions.
   This bill would provide that pursuant to specified federal law,
the state elects to provide for Medi-Cal eligibility for nursing
facilities or other long-term care services for individuals with an
equity interest in their home of $750,000 or less.
   Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes.
State-mandated local program: no.


THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  SECTION 1.  Section 14006.7 is added to the Welfare and
Institutions Code, to read:
   14006.7.  Pursuant to Section 6014 of the Federal Deficit
Reduction Act of 2006 (Public Law 109-171), the state elects to
provide for Medi-Cal eligibility for nursing facilities or other
long-term care services for individuals with an equity interest in
their home of seven hundred fifty thousand dollars ($750,000) or
less.
