BILL NUMBER: SB 363 CHAPTERED 07/17/07 CHAPTER 79 FILED WITH SECRETARY OF STATE JULY 17, 2007 APPROVED BY GOVERNOR JULY 17, 2007 PASSED THE SENATE MAY 14, 2007 PASSED THE ASSEMBLY JULY 3, 2007 AMENDED IN SENATE APRIL 18, 2007 AMENDED IN SENATE MARCH 26, 2007 INTRODUCED BY Senator Simitian FEBRUARY 20, 2007 An act to amend Section 44230.5 of the Education Code, relating to teacher credentialing. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 363, Simitian. Teacher credentialing: identification number. The Teacher Credentialing Law of 1988 requires the Commission on Teacher Credentialing to establish professional standards, assessments, and examinations for entry and advancement in the education profession. Existing law requires the commission to establish a nonpersonally identifiable teacher identification number for each teacher to whom it issues a credential, certificate, permit, or other document to teach in the public schools. This bill instead would require the commission to establish a nonpersonally identifiable educator identification number for each educator to whom it issues a credential to provide a service in the public schools. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 44230.5 of the Education Code is amended to read: 44230.5. The commission shall establish a nonpersonally identifiable educator identification number for each educator to whom it issues a credential, certificate, permit, or other document authorizing that individual to provide a service in the public schools.
