SUBJECT : Renewable energy resources: clean-up to SB 14

           SOURCE : Author

DIGEST : This bill makes a change in SB 14 (Simitian)
relating to renewable energy resources in order to correct
a date problem in the provision concerning the percentages
of electricity from eligible renewable energy resources a
local publicly owned electric utility must procure. It
requires the utility to procure 20 percent by 2013, instead
of 2012. This bill becomes operative only if AB 64
(Krekorian) and SB 14 (Simitian) are chaptered.

ANALYSIS : SB 14 has a provision requiring that the
Renewables Portfolio Standard established for a local
publicly owned electric utility, require it to procure the
following percentages of electricity from eligible
renewable energy resources by the following dates: 20
percent by December 31, 2012; 23 percent by December 31,
          2014; 26 percent by December 31, 2016; 30 percent by
December 31, 2018; and until December 31, 2012, the same
          percentage as actually achieved by the utility during 2009;
          20 percent by December 31, 2012; 25 percent by December 31,

          2016; and 33 percent by December 31, 2020.

This bill changes the date by which the utility must
procure 20 percent eligible renewable resources from
          December 31, 2012 to December 31, 2013. (The Legislative
Counsel digest has the date as 2013.)
