DIGEST : This resolution recognizes the month of February
2009 as American Heart Month in California, recognizes
February 6, 2009, as Wear Red Day in California, and urges
public support for Go Red for Women events.

           ANALYSIS :

           Resolution Findings

1.Diseases of the heart are the leading cause of death and
stroke is the third leading cause of death in California
and the United States. Cardiovascular diseases claim
the lives of over 455,000 American women each year,
             approximately one death per minutes.

2.In 2008, the direct and indirect costs of cardiovascular
disease and stroke in the United States is estimated to
                                                           CONTINUED

             be $475 billion.

3.Each year, 53 percent of all cardiovascular disease and
61 percent of stroke deaths occur in women. More women
die of cardiovascular disease than the next five leading
causes of death combined, including all cancers. Only
21 percent perceive heart disease as their greatest
             risk.

4.All women should learn their own personal risk for heart
disease, suing tools like the American Heart
Association's Go Red for Women Heart Checkup, and by
talking to their health care provider.

5.Making the right choices relating to proper nutrition,
physical activity, doctor visits, and other lifestyle
methods is essential to living a heart healthy life.

6.The American Heart Association is committed to
conducting and supporting medical research that advances
knowledge in the areas of prevention and treatment of
             heart disease and stroke.

7.The American Heart Association strives to inform all
citizens about the critical importance of tools and
skills that will increase the survival rate of men and
women from heart disease and stroke.

8.February is designated as American Hearth Month.

9.Go Red for Women is the American Heart Association's
national call to increase awareness of heart disease,
the leading cause of death for women, and to inspire
women to take charge of their heart health.

10.Wear Red Day is recognized nationwide each year to
highlight the Go Red for Women campaign.
