           SUMMARY

This resolution declares the weeks of February 22 through 28,
2009, and February 21 through 27, 2010, as Eating Disorders
Awareness Week. In addition, this resolution urges the
Department of Public Health (DPH) to undertake a study relating
to eating disorders and make necessary recommendations for
          legislation. Specifically, this resolution:

1)Makes findings and declarations about Anorexia Nervosa and
            other eating disorders.

          2)Recognizes both February 22 through 28, 2009, and February 21
through 27, 2010, as Eating Disorders Awareness weeks.

3)Urges DPH to undertake a study of the public health impact of
eating disorders and the need for programs and policies to
enhance awareness, detection, and prevention of eating
            disorders.

           FISCAL EFFECT

A comprehensive study of eating disorders and recommendations
for necessary policy changes would likely cost in excess of
several hundred thousand dollars in state General Fund.

           COMMENTS

Rationale . According to the author, this resolution is critical
because individuals of all ages, races, and genders are dying
from these illnesses and a lack of awareness of their
seriousness is contributing to the numbers afflicted.
