Lieu, Chair ACR 59 (Nielsen and Ma) - As Introduced: April 13, 2009 SUBJECT : Crime Victims' Rights Week. SUMMARY : Recognizes the week of April 26, 2009, through May 2, 2009, as Crime Victims' Rights Week. Specifically, this resolution makes the following legislative findings: 1)The remembrances observed during National Crime Victims' Rights Week promote awareness of victim issues and acknowledge the combined efforts of citizens, government, and the criminal justice system to improve victims' services in California. 2)Through the passage of Proposition 8, the Crime Victims' Bill of Rights, in 1982, and Proposition 9, the Victims' Bill of Rights Act of 2008: Marsy's Law, California citizens have protected victims' rights in the California Constitution. 3)Since 1981, National Crime Victims' Rights Week has raised awareness of the special needs of crime victims; and this year's theme is "25 Years of Rebuilding Lives: Celebrating the Victims of Crime Act." FISCAL EFFECT : None COMMENTS : The author has proposed amendments that make grammatical corrections and add co-authors to the bill. Committee staff recommends the measure be adopted as amended.
