SUMMARY : Proclaims August 3, 2010, as National Night Out in
California, and urges the Californians to observe and
participate in National Night Out.
The Senate amendments delete the resolution's original language
relating to Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and make the
following legislative findings:
1)National Night Out is an effective, inexpensive, and enjoyable
program to promote and recognize neighborhood spirit and
police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation,
and provides community benefits that extend well beyond the
night; and the 27th annual National Night Out has been
scheduled for August 3, 2010.
2)It is essential that Californians be aware of the importance
of crime prevention programs and the impact that their
participation can have on reducing crime, drugs, and violence;
and National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug
prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation
in, local anticrime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit
and police-community partnerships; and send a message to
criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and
fighting back.
3)Over 36 million people participated in National Night Out in
2009, including citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic
groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations, and local
officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states,
United States territories, Canadian cities, and military bases
worldwide.
