AB 1224 (Eng) - As Amended: January 4, 2010
Policy Committee:
TransportationVote:14-0
Urgency: No State Mandated Local Program:
No Reimbursable:
SUMMARY
This bill reinserts the definition of "utility trailer" in the
Vehicle Code. "Utility trailer" is defined as any trailer or
semi-trailer used solely for the transportation of the users's
personal property or livestock, not in commerce, which does not
exceed a gross weight of 10,000 pounds or a manufacturer's gross
vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds.
FISCAL EFFECT
Negligible and absorbable costs to DMV. Though the bill is keyed
a state-mandated local program, it does not constitute a
mandate.
COMMENTS
Rationale . The bill is intended to simplify administration of
the Vehicle Code. The definition of utility vehicle was
inadvertently deleted by legislation enacted in 2001, creating
ambiguity elsewhere in the code, where the term is still used
for trailer safety inspection, permit, and registration
requirements.
