           SUMMARY  :   Renames the Board for Professional Engineers and Land  
          Surveyors (BPELS) the Board for Professional Engineers, Land  
          Surveyors, and Geologists (Board) and increases its board  
          members from 13 to 15.

           The Senate amendments  :

          1)Delete "Geophysicists" from the new title of the Board.

          2)Add one additional governor-appointed public member to the  
            Board.

          3)Add language to avoid chaptering-out issues with SB 294  
            (Negrete McLeod).

          4)Make technical, conforming changes.

           EXISTING LAW  :

          1)Establishes BPELS under the Department of Consumer Affairs.

          2)Requires the members of BPELS to have at least 12 years active  
            experience, be of good standing in their profession, be at  
            least 30 years of age, and reside in California for at least  
            five years immediately preceding their appointment.

           AS PASSED BY THE ASSEMBLY  , this bill is substantially similar to  
          the version passed by the Senate.  
           
          FISCAL EFFECT  :   According to the Senate Appropriations  
          Committee, pursuant to Senate Rule 28.8, negligible state costs.
