SUMMARY : Prohibits the adoption of the 2009 International
Building Code (IBC) regulation reducing the maximum travel
distance to an exit single-story warehouses to 250 feet, into
the California Building Code (Code). Specifically, this bill :
1)Authorizes a maximum of 400 feet of travel distance to an exit
for one-story warehouse buildings if:
a) The storage areas are protected by early suppression
fast response sprinkler systems designed and installed in
accordance with the National Fire Protection Association
Standard; and,
b) The storage areas have a minimum interior height of 30
feet to the underside of the roof deck.
2)States that this bill shall remain operative until a
particular standard, as specified, is adopted by the
California Building Standards Commission (CBSC) as part of the
Code.
3)Makes legislative findings and declarations.
EXISTING LAW upon adoption of the IBC regulations into the Code,
reduces the maximum travel distance to an exit single-story
warehouses to 250 feet.

COMMENTS : Background information has not been provided by the
author's office.
CBSC was established in 1953 and is responsible for
administering California's building codes, which includes

adopting, approving, publishing, and implementing the codes and
standards. CBSC publishes the Code every three years, and its
supplements, such as the California Green Building Standards
Code, in intervening years. The 2009 IBC was revised to allow
for a maximum travel distance of 250 feet for large warehouse
buildings. This revision will be automatically included in the
2010 triennial publication of the Code, effective January 1,
2011.
