An act to amend Section 67600 of the Education Code, relating to
military training.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
SB 645, as introduced, Denham. Public higher education: training
programs at military facilities.
Existing law establishes the University of California and the
California State University as 2 of the segments of public
postsecondary education in this state. Existing law states that
nothing in the public policy of the state requires the establishment
or disestablishment of any United States Armed Forces training unit
or class at any campus of a public institution of higher education.
This bill would declare that the University of California and the
California State University may coordinate with the United States
Armed Forces to establish training programs at military facilities.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Section 67600 of the Education Code is amended to read:
67600. (a) Nothing in the public policy of
the State of California requires the establishment or the
disestablishment of any United States Armed Forces training unit or
class at any campus of a public postsecondary educational institution
or the prohibition of employment recruitment by the United States
Armed Forces at any campus of a public postsecondary educational
institution.
(b) The University of California and the California State
University may coordinate with the United States Armed Forces to
establish training programs at military facilities.
