Amended: 4/4/11 in Assembly Vote: 21 ASSEMBLY FLOOR : Read and adopted, 4/4/11 SUBJECT : Child Abuse Prevention Month SOURCE : Author DIGEST : This resolution acknowledges the month of April 2011 as Child Abuse Prevention Month, and encourages the people of the State of California to work together to support youth-serving child abuse prevention activities in their communities and schools. ANALYSIS : This resolution states the following: 1. Child abuse and neglect continue to pose a serious threat to our nation's children. 2. Child abuse and neglect is a community problem and finding solutions depends on the involvement of people throughout the community. 3. All victims of child abuse, whether physical, sexual, or emotional, should have access to a safe place to live, appropriate medical care, and counseling or mental CONTINUED ACR 24 Page 2 health services. 4. Parents, guardians, family members, foster care providers, child care providers, educators, law enforcement personnel, medical professionals, mental health professionals, social service providers, and the public all play an important role in working collaboratively to prevent child abuse and neglect. 5. In recent years, the National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse, the California chapter and other local affiliates, United States military bases, and other groups have organized Blue Ribbon Campaigns to increase public awareness of child abuse and to promote ways to prevent child abuse. 6. Prevent Child Abuse America, in all its forms, has proclaimed April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month. 7. Blue ribbons are displayed to increase awareness of child abuse and as a strategy for Child Abuse Prevention Month. 8. The flexibility of this program offers numerous opportunities to be innovative and to create partnerships within business, professional, and community organizations. 9. That the Legislature hereby acknowledges the month of April 2011 as Child Abuse Prevention Month, and encourage the people of the State of California to work together to support youth-serving child abuse prevention activities in their communities and schools during that month and throughout the year.
