SUMMARY : Congratulates the California State University system
on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, commends the invaluable
contributions it has made to the intellectual and social growth
of its students, and extends best wishes for its continued
success in the future.
The Senate amendments add Senate co-authors and make grammatical
corrections.
AS PASSED BY THE ASSEMBLY , this resolution made the following
legislative findings:
1)The California State Colleges was established as a system by
the Donahoe Higher Education Act of 1960. In 1972, the system
became known as the California State University and Colleges;
and, in 1982, the system became the California State
University (CSU).
2)Today, the 23 campuses of the CSU include comprehensive and
polytechnic universities and, since July 1995, the California
Maritime Academy, a specialized campus.
3)CSU offers more than 2,000 baccalaureate and master's degree
programs in some 357 subject areas; and, since 1961, the CSU
has awarded nearly 2,500,000 baccalaureate, master's, and
joint doctoral degrees.
4)CSU faculty members are renowned for their teaching skills and
significant contributions to research; and, together with CSU
staff and administrators, they provide the infrastructure to
fulfill the CSU mission and have made the CSU a leader in
high-quality, accessible, and student-focused higher

education.
5)The CSU will celebrate its 50th anniversary during 2010 and
2011; and, upon this occasion, it is deserving of special
public commendations.
