SUMMARY : Designates September of every year as Ovarian Cancer
Awareness Month and encourages and promotes the efforts of the
people and the healthcare practitioners of the state to increase
their awareness of this disease and to educate themselves about
early detection and prevention. Specifically, this resolution
          makes the following legislative findings:

1)Each year in the United States, over 21,000 women are
diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and approximately 15,000 women
            die of this disease.

2)Fewer than 20% of ovarian cancer patients are diagnosed early
leaving an overwhelming 80% of all patients being diagnosed in
            the advanced stage of cancer.

3)Due to the lack of early detection capabilities, the mortality
rate for ovarian cancer has remained high for the past three
decades making this type of cancer among the deadliest of all
            gynecologic cancers in women.

4)Ovarian cancer symptoms are vague and not well known by the
public which leads to a prediction of this cancer reaching
epidemic proportions with woman over 45 years of age most
            likely developing this cancer.

5)There are factors that are known to reduce the risk for
ovarian cancer and that play an important role in the
prevention of the disease; and, there is a need to increase
the awareness and of this disease among health care
practitioners and the people of the state and to continue to
educate the public of early warning signs and symptoms of
