SUMMARY : Declares the week of June 4, 2012, to June 10, 2012,
inclusive, as Fire Safety and Disaster Preparedness Week; and,
encourages all California firefighters and citizens to
participate in local educational activities throughout that week
to better prepare our state for an emergency. Specifically,
this resolution makes the following legislative findings:

1)California is home to a myriad of disaster threats, such as
fires, floods, mudslides, earthquakes, and terrorism; and,
Californians face innumerable fire and emergency threats
            within their own homes.

2)The Federal Emergency Management Agency reports that most
Americans underestimate the risk of fire in their homes; and,
many lack emergency response plans or fail to practice them.

3)Carbon monoxide poisoning and fires from residential clothes
dryers also result in a high number of deaths and millions of
dollars in property damage; and, educating the public on the
critical importance of fire and disaster preparedness deserves
            our utmost attention and commitment.

4)Public education programs organized and produced by the
California Fire Foundation have yielded life-saving results
and include educating the public on fire safety, disaster
preparedness, and the toxic effects of fires.
