LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
AB 170, as introduced, Jeffries. Developmental services: regional
centers: Inland Regional Center.
Under existing law, the Lanterman Developmental Disabilities
Services Act, the State Department of Developmental Services is
authorized to contract with regional centers to provide support and
services to individuals with developmental disabilities.
This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact
legislation that would divide the Inland Regional Center, which
serves Riverside and San Bernardino counties, into 2 separate
regional centers that independently serve their respective
communities.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. It is the intent of the Legislature to enact
legislation that does all of the following:
(a) Rectifies the level of accountability and the quality of
services provided to consumers of the regional center in Riverside
and San Bernardino counties.
(b) Increases local involvement and ensures that consumers at the
regional center in Riverside and San Bernardino counties are given
the individual attention and service they deserve.
(c) Divides the Inland Regional Center, which serves the Riverside
and San Bernardino counties, into two separate regional centers that
independently serve their respective communities in order to address
the concerns in subdivisions (a) and (b).
