COMMENTS : According to the author, "The CBSC's eleven members are designated in statute to represent the public, building design professionals, the building and construction industry, local government building officials, fire officials, and labor. While there are various dedicated sectors for members of the CBSC to be from, not one of the 11 members is required to be experienced and knowledgeable in sustainable building, design, construction, and operation." The CBSC was established in 1953 and is responsible for administering California's building codes, including adopting, approving, publishing, and implementing codes and standards. The 11 members of the CBSC are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. CBSC members meet quarterly and represent the public, building design professions, the building and construction industry, local government building officials, fire officials, and labor. Members serve four-year terms without compensation and there is currently one CBSC vacancy. This bill, as amended in the Senate, is consistent with Assembly actions.
