BILL ANALYSIS Ó AB 1930 Page 1 Date of Hearing: May 9, 2012 ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON APPROPRIATIONS Felipe Fuentes, Chair AB 1930 (Gorell) - As Amended: April 16, 2012 Policy Committee: PERSSVote:6-0 Urgency: No State Mandated Local Program: No Reimbursable: SUMMARY This bill requires the State Personnel Board (SPB) to notify the Department of Veterans Affairs when any promotional examination for the establishment of an eligible list is announced or advertised. FISCAL EFFECT Minor and absorbable costs. COMMENTS Purpose. According to the author, veterans are legally able to use their military experience to apply for state civil service jobs, but their unfamiliarity with the state personnel board and its bureaucracy makes it difficult for them to understand the procedures. The author argues with the growing effort to encourage veterans to use the resources of the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet), this bill will give CalVet the ability to provide information about state promotional exams to job seeking veterans.
