Deputy Sheriff who lost his life in the line of duty.

EXISTING LAW : Assigns Caltrans the responsibility of operating
and maintaining state highways. This includes the installation
          and maintenance of highway signs.

COMMENTS : Frank Trejo was a career lawman whose work spanned 35
years. He first served as a police officer for the cities of
Lompoc and Tiburon before joining the Sonoma County Sheriff's
Office, where he served for 15 years. Deputy Trejo was
affectionately known as the "old man" in the sheriff's office
and is credited with mentoring many younger officers over the
course of his 35-year career. On March 29, 1995, Deputy Trejo
was shot and killed in the line of duty while investigating a
suspicious motor vehicle in his beat west of the city of Santa
Rosa. Deputy Trejo is remembered as a loving husband to his
wife Barbara, as father to four children, and as grandfather and
great-grandfather. He has been awarded the Gold Medal of Valor
for his sacrifice, Sonoma County Sheriff's Office highest award.
