BILL ANALYSIS Ó SCR 67 Page 1 Date of Hearing: May 14, 2012 ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON RULES Nancy Skinner, Chair SCR 67 (Huff) - As Amended: April 16, 2012 SENATE VOTE : 35-0 SUBJECT : Food Allergy Awareness Week. SUMMARY : Designates the week of May 13 through May19, 2012, as Food Allergy Awareness Week. Specifically, this resolution makes the following legislative findings: 1)Research shows that the prevalence of food allergies is increasing among children; and, eight foods that cause 90 percent of all food allergy reactions in the United States are shellfish, fish, milk, egg, tree nuts, peanuts, soy, and wheat. 2)Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that is rapid in onset and may cause death; and, strict avoidance of the offending food is the only way to prevent an allergic reaction. 3)There is no cure for a food allergy and scientists do not understand why food allergies occur; and, the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness about food allergy and anaphylaxis.
