   SCR 72, as introduced, Price. National Consumer Protection Week.
   This measure would recognize that the Federal Trade Commission and
other consumer organizations have designated the week of March 4
through March 10, 2012, as National Consumer Protection Week in order
to empower consumers with knowledge to help them make informed
choices in their purchases and to protect themselves from fraud and
identity theft, and would declare the support of the Legislature for
National Consumer Protection Week.

   WHEREAS, Now more than ever, California's consumers need the tools
to make smart decisions in the marketplace in order to protect
themselves, their communities, and their families; and
   WHEREAS, Information is empowerment, and empowered consumers can
get the most for their money while lowering their risk of falling
victim to fraud; and
   WHEREAS, The California Department of Consumer Affairs is joining
with the Federal Trade Commission and other consumer protection
organizations across the country for National Consumer Protection
Week, March 4 through March 10, 2012; and
   WHEREAS, Their mission is to help consumers get the information
they need to make their hard-earned dollars go farther, to shield
themselves from scams and identity theft, and to speak up for their
rights as consumers; and
   WHEREAS, the Legislature supports that consumer empowerment effort
to protect California's more than 37 million consumers; and
   WHEREAS, By becoming empowered, California's consumers can help
strengthen our economy and protect their hard-earned money; now,
therefore, be it
   Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
thereof concurring, That the Legislature does recognize and support
the Department of Consumer Affairs' consumer protection and
empowerment effort during National Consumer Protection Week, March 4
through March 10, 2012; and be it further
   Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this
resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
