           COMMENTS

Background and Purpose . SB 70 (Budget Committee), a trailer bill
to the 2011-12 Budget Act, requires each Cal Grant participating
institution to provide CSAC with the following in order to
participate in the Cal Grant program:

1)Enrollment, persistence, and graduation data for all students.

2)Job placement rate and salary data and wage information for
each program that is either (a) designed or advertised to lead
to a particular type of job, or (b) advertised or promoted

                                                                  Page 2

with any claim regarding job placement.

According to the author, while there are many websites that
provide information about college programs and costs, few sites
easily enable students to compare programs and schools in order
to help them make informed choices about their significant
investment in college. Since the majority of college students
participate in some type of financial aid program, and since
each year approximately 250,000 students set up a Web Grant
account to access information about and manage their Cal Grants,
the CSAC website is a logical place to house comparative
information about institutions or similar programs at different
          institutions.
