EXISTING LAW sets forth the duties and powers of the BSA, and requires the SA to examine and report annually upon the financial statements prepared by the executive branch of the state and to perform other related assignments, including mandated performance audits. FISCAL EFFECT : According to the Assembly Appropriations Committee, costs associated with this legislation would be minor and absorbable within existing BSA resources. COMMENTS : According to the author's office, "This bill simply changes the name of the 'BSA' to the 'California State Auditor's Office.' Current statutes refer to both the 'SA' and the 'BSA.' The SA believes that this is confusing and makes it appear as if there are two separate state entities with auditor responsibilities. The proposed change would clarify that there is one single state entity responsible for audits." SB 1395 Page 2 Analysis Prepared by : Joanna Gin / B.,P. & C.P. / (916) 319-3301 FN: 0004839
