Specifically, this bill: 1)Requires approved dental hygiene educational programs to register extramural dental facilities with the Dental Hygiene Committee of California (DHCC). 2)Requires the DHCC to impose the same application denial and license revocation procedures that currently exist for the Dental Board of California, on applicants or licensees who are registered sex offenders. 3)Requires certain licensee information be collected and posted to the DHCC web site. 4)Includes other minor, technical, or non-substantive changes to law governing the Medical Board of California, nurse midwives, the Board of Podiatric Medicine, the State Board of Optometry, respiratory care practitioners, the Board of Pharmacy, and the Board of Behavioral Sciences. FISCAL EFFECT 1)Minor one-time costs, under $50,000, to the DHCC to comply with provisions (1) through (3), above. 2)Negligible costs to other healing arts boards. SB 1575 Page 2 COMMENTS 1)Rationale . This bill makes numerous non-controversial, minor, non-substantive changes to various provisions pertaining to the health-related regulatory boards. Consolidating the provisions in one bill is designed to relieve the various licensing Boards, bureaus and professions from the necessity and burden of having separate measures for a number of non-controversial revisions. 2)Related Legislation . SB 1202 (Leno), pending before this committee, makes a number of changes regarding the licensure and regulation of dental hygienists by the DHCC.
