Interstate 5 in Dunnigan as the Deputy Tony Diaz, Yolo County
          Sheriffs Office, Memorial Rest Area.

ANALYSIS : This resolution seeks to memorialize Deputy Tony

Deputy Diaz' contributions . After immigrating to Dixon from
Mexico as a child, Jose Antonio "Tony" Diaz worked tirelessly in

assisted farmworkers as Assistant Program Services Manager with
the Human Development Corporation. In 1999, the Yolo County
Information Technology Department hired Mr. Diaz and assigned
him to the Yolo County Sheriff's Office, where he became
interested in law enforcement and attended the Yuba College
Police Academy. The Yolo County Sheriff's Office hired Deputy
Diaz on August 22, 2004. His peers described him as a gentle,
hardworking man who was proud of his family and community. On
June 15, 2008, Deputy Diaz attempted to stop a known parolee
suspected of driving under the influence with a child in the
vehicle. After the suspect failed to yield, Deputy Diaz pursued
and stopped the driver in the town of Dunnigan. The suspect
fled on foot. While Deputy Diaz checked on the child in the
vehicle, he was shot from behind, succumbing to his injuries a
          few hours later.

Department of Transportation erect appropriate signs upon
receiving donations from non-state sources to cover the costs.
