This measure would designate a portion of State Highway Route 1 in the County of Ventura as the Seabees Memorial Highway. The measure also would request the Department of Transportation to determine the cost of appropriate signs showing that special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources sufficient to cover the cost, to erect those signs.

P1 1WHEREAS, The Seabees, the Combat Warfare Specialists of
2the United States Navy’s Civil Engineer Corps, are tasked with
3providing expert engineering, planning, and construction missions,
4often under extreme pressure and while facing difficult obstacles;
5and
6WHEREAS, Ventura County, this state, and this country owe
7a great debt and gratitude to all veterans of this country; and
8WHEREAS, It is important to recognize the many
9accomplishments of the Seabees, from successes during World
10War II to today, and even in one of the most inhospitable regions
11on Earth, Antarctica; and
P2 1WHEREAS, It is appropriate to honor all Seabees who have
2served in this country’s Navy, both in war and in peacetime, and
3to pay tribute to the tremendous sacrifices the Seabees have made
4to maintain the strength, freedom, and independence of our country;
5now, therefore, be it
6Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
7thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby designates that
8portion of State Highway Route 1 in the County of Ventura, from
9the milepost nearest to Point Mugu to South Rice Avenue in the
10City of Oxnard, as the Seabees Memorial Highway, in order to
11honor all Seabees who have served in the Navy of the United
12States; and be it further
13Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested
14to determine the cost of appropriate signs, consistent with the
15signing requirements for the state highway system, showing this
16special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate
17sources sufficient to cover the cost, to erect those signs; and be it
18further
19Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
20of this resolution to the Department of Transportation and to the
21author for appropriate distribution.
