Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 28—Relative to the Armed Forces.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

ACR 28, as amended, Nazarian. Armed Forces Day.

This measure would honor and recognize the service and sacrifice made by members of the Armed Forces and their families on the occasion of Armed Forces Day on May 18, 2013.

P1    1WHEREAS, Armed Forces Day was created in 1949 in
2connection with the consolidation of the military services in the
3United States Department of Defense; and

4WHEREAS, The purpose of Armed Forces Day is to honor the
5men and women who are serving in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps,
6Air Force, and Coast Guard, including the National Guard and
7Reserve components; and

8WHEREAS, Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third
9Saturday in May, which this year is May 18, 2013; and

P2    1WHEREAS, Armed Forces Day salutes the veterans of our military,
2including the 1,430,000 soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen
3currently enlisted; and

4WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Forces have performed
5tremendous service on behalf of the United States; and

6WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Forces have been killed
7and injured in operations to bring peace and stability in the name
8of democracy; and

9WHEREAS, All Americans express their recognition and
10gratitude for members of the Armed Forces at home and abroad;
11now, therefore, be it

12Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
13thereof concurring,
That the Legislature, on the occasion of Armed
14Forces Day 2013;

15(1) Honors and recognizes the service and sacrifice that members
16of the Armed Forces and their families gave, and continue to give,
17to the United States;

18(2) Remains committed to supporting the members of the Armed
19Forces and their families;

20(3) Encourages Americans to show their support and
21appreciation for members of the Armed Forces on Armed Forces
22Day;

23(4) Commends the actions of private citizens and organizations
24who volunteer to support America’s wounded warriors; and

25(5) Expresses the gratitude of the American people to the
26members of the Armed Forces for their service on behalf of the
27United States; and be it further

28Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
29of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
