Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 28—Relative to the Armed Forces.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

ACR 28, as amended, Nazarian. Armed Forces Day.

This measure would honor and recognize the service and sacrifice made by members of the Armed Forces and their families on the occasion of Armed Forces Day on May 18, 2013.

Fiscal committee: no.

P2    1WHEREAS, Armed Forces Day was created in 1949 in
2connection with the consolidation of the military services in the
3United States Department of Defense; and

4WHEREAS, The purpose of Armed Forces Day is to honor the
5men and women who are serving in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps,
6Air Force, and Coast Guard, including the National Guard and
7Reserve components; and

8WHEREAS, Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third
9Saturday in May, which this year is May 18, 2013; and

10WHEREAS, Armed Forces Day salutes the veterans of our
11military, including the 1,430,000 soldiers, sailors, marines, and
12airmen currently enlisted; and

13WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Forces have performed
14tremendous service on behalf of the United States; and

15WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Forces have been killed
16and injured in operations to bring peace and stability in the name
17of democracy; and

18WHEREAS, All Americans express their recognition and
19gratitude for members of the Armed Forces at home and abroad;
20now, therefore, be it

21Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
22thereof concurring,
That the Legislature, on the occasion of Armed
23Forces Day 2013;

24(1) Honors and recognizes the service and sacrifice that members
25of the Armed Forces and their families gave, and continue to give,
26to the United States;

27(2) Remains committed to supporting the members of the Armed
28Forces and their families;

29(3) Encourages Americans to show their support and
30appreciation for members of the Armed Forces on Armed Forces
31Day;

32(4) Commends the actions of private citizens and organizations
33who volunteer to support America’s wounded warriors; and

34(5) Expresses the gratitude of the American people to the
35members of the Armed Forces for their service on behalf of the
36United States; and be it further

37Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
38of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
