This measure would recognize the month of March 2013 as American Red Cross Month in California in order to raise awareness of the importance of the organization’s help to those in need.

P1 1WHEREAS, March is American Red Cross Month, a special
2time to recognize and thank our heroes-- those who volunteer,
3donate blood, take life-saving courses, or provide financial
4donations to support an organization whose mission is to help those
5in need; and
6WHEREAS, In California, the American Red Cross works
7tirelessly through its 435 employees and 27,245 volunteers to help
8when disaster strikes or when someone needs life-saving blood or
9the comfort of a helping hand; and
10WHEREAS, The American Red Cross provides 24-hour support
11to members of the military, veterans, and their families, and
12provides training in CPR, aquatic safety, and first aid; and
13WHEREAS, Across the country, the American Red Cross
14responds to nearly 70,000 disasters a year; and
P2 1WHEREAS, Emergency communications, training, support to
2wounded warriors and veterans, and access to community resources
3help an average of 150,000 military families and veterans annually;
4and
5WHEREAS, The American Red Cross collects and distributes
6approximately 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply and trains
7more than seven million people in first aid, water safety, and other
8life-saving skills every year; and
9WHEREAS, Our community depends on the American Red
10Cross, which relies on donations of time, money, and blood to
11fulfill its humanitarian mission. Despite these challenging economic
12times, the American Red Cross continues to offer help and comfort
13to those in need; and
14WHEREAS, The American Red Cross is the nation’s leading
15provider of health and safety courses, including CPR, First Aid,
16and Lifeguard training, and each year more than nine million
17Americans participate in their training programs, including first
18responders, educators, babysitters, and people who want to be
19prepared to help others in an emergency; and
20WHEREAS, We would like to remember those who help all of
21us here in California by giving their time to help their neighbor,
22and thank our heroes-- our volunteers, blood donors, class
23participants, and financial supporters who help the American Red
24Cross assist those in need; now, therefore, be it
25Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
26thereof concurring, That the Legislature recognizes the month of
27March 2013 as American Red Cross Month in California, in order
28to raise awareness of the importance of the organization’s help to
29those in need; and be it further
30Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
31of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
