Relative to the University of California 4-H Youth Development
Program.

HOUSE OR SENATE RESOLUTIONS DO NOT CONTAIN A DIGEST
WHEREAS, 2013 marks the centennial year of the University of
California 4-H Youth Development Program; and
WHEREAS, The University of California 4-H Youth Development
Program is deserving of special public recognition and the highest
commendations for its distinguished record of helping young people
become healthy, happy, and thriving citizens who make a positive
difference in their communities; and
WHEREAS, The mission of the University of California 4-H Youth
Development Program is to engage youth in reaching their fullest
potential while advancing the field of youth development; and
WHEREAS, More than 72,000 young people are active annually in 4-H
programs in California, and there have been more than one million 4-H
alumni in this state since the founding of 4-H; and
WHEREAS, Youth-adult partnerships and youth-centered educational
programs are available through local clubs, after school programs,
and camps; and
WHEREAS, The Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the
University of California, a land-grant university, delivers the 4-H
Youth Development Program through the California Cooperative
Extension System; and
WHEREAS, There are 13,400 adult volunteers in California who
contribute countless hours and effort each year to educating young
4-H members; and
WHEREAS, 4-H emphasizes programming to promote healthy living,
science, engineering, technology literacy, citizenship, and
leadership through learning-by-doing; and
WHEREAS, 4-H addresses issues facing young people wherever they
may live, including cities, suburbs, and rural communities; and
WHEREAS, 4-H values young people as a resource capable of
providing solutions to the critical issues facing our communities;
and
WHEREAS, 4-H members create positive changes in every community in
the State of California; and
WHEREAS, 4-H members build skills that help them to thrive as
competent, confident, caring leaders of character who are connected
to others and contribute to their communities; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the
University of California 4-H Youth Development Program be commended,
on the occasion of its centennial, for the outstanding contributions
it has made to young people throughout the state, and that it be
extended sincere best wishes for the next 100 years; and be it
further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of
this resolution to the author and to the University of California 4-H
Youth Development Program.
