House Resolution No. 14—Relative to the Month of the Military Child.

P1    1WHEREAS, In 1986, Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger
2established the Defense Department’s Month of the Military Child;
3and

4WHEREAS, Every April, United States military services and
5communities around the world recognize military children for their
6daily sacrifices and the challenges they must overcome; and

7WHEREAS, Military children often have to adapt their lives to
8the requirements of their parent’s military obligations; and

P2    1WHEREAS, These children shoulder responsibilities beyond
2their years and burdens outside of their control, such as repeatedly
3moving and changing schools, long-term family member
4separations, and even the loss of a parent; and

5WHEREAS, Many military children have known only war since
6September 11, 2001; and

7WHEREAS, California is home to more than 158,000 military
8children whose parents serve in the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine
9Corps, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserves; and

10WHEREAS, California will further its commitment to the brave
11men and women who serve their country and state by recognizing
12these children and young American heroes and pledging its
13gratitude for their sacrifices; now, therefore, be it

14Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the
15Assembly hereby proclaims the month of April 2013 as the Month
16of the Military Child in California; and be it further

17Resolved, That the Assembly urges all Californians, local and
18state leaders, private organizations, and businesses to observe the
19month by showing appreciation to the children and youth of
20military families for standing by their parents and loved ones who
21are serving as members of the Armed Forces of the Unites States;
22and be it further

23Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
24of this resolution to each Senator and Representative from
25California in the Congress of the United States, to the Governor
26of California, to the Adjutant General of the California National
27Guard, to the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, to
28the Secretaries of the Armed Forces of the United States, and to
29the author for appropriate distribution.
