P1 1WHEREAS, The 361st Infantry was organized on September
24, 1917, as an element of the 91st Division and was formed into
3a Regimental Combat Team. On September 11, 1918, the 361st
4Infantry Regimental Combat Team became the first regiment of
5the 91st Division to enter combat in World War I, serving valiantly
6under treacherous conditions on the fronts and receiving battle
7streamers for Ypres-Lys, Muse-Argonne, and Lorraine. The 361st
8Infantry Regimental Combat Team received numerous decorations
9from Belgium, France, and the United States of America, including
10the Congressional Medal of Honor; and
11WHEREAS, After being demobilized in April 1919, the 361st
12Infantry was reconstituted in June 1921 and was allotted to the
13Organized Reserves in Sacramento, California, as an element of
14the 91st Division. The 361st Infantry was ordered into active
15military service on August 15, 1942, at Camp White, Oregon,
16where it underwent rigorous training until November 1943; and
17WHEREAS, The 361st Infantry participated in the initial landing
18on the beach of Anzio, Italy, on June 1, 1944, and distinguished
19itself throughout the Italian campaign, receiving numerous
20commendations and awards, including a Presidential Unit Citation
21and campaign streamers for Rome-Arno, North Apennines, and
22the Po Valley; and
P2 1WHEREAS, The 361st Infantry was deactivated at Camp
2Rucker, Alabama, on November 13, 1945, and was organized and
3redesignated the Organized Reserve Corps in 1948 with
4headquarters in California where it continues to serve our beloved
5country; and
6WHEREAS, The former members of the 361st Infantry have
7aided in maintaining the honor, integrity, and supremacy of the
8country, holding in remembrance their common cause to uphold
9the Constitution and laws of the United States of America. The
10former members of the 361st Infantry encourage in all people the
11spirit of understanding, which shall help guard against future wars,
12promote charitable activity directed to members or their survivors
13who may be in need, and preserve the memories of our military
14activities; and
15WHEREAS, On Saturday, September 7, 2013, the 361st Infantry
16Association will hold their 24th annual reunion and memorial
17ceremony in Sacramento, California, in the 52nd year of the
18organization; now, therefore, be it
19Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the
20Assembly proclaims September 7, 2013, as 361st Infantry
21Regiment Day in California; and be it further
22Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
23of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
