           SUMMARY  

          This measure designates, as the "Detectives Mike Lane and John  
          Pierce Memorial Highway," the portion of State Route 72  
          (Whittier Boulevard) from Norwalk Boulevard to Valley Home  
          Avenue in Whittier (Los Angeles County).

           FISCAL EFFECT  

          Minor State Highway Account costs to Caltrans to make and erect  
          appropriate signs; these costs are fully covered by donations.

           COMMENTS  

           Purpose  . This measure honors two deceased members of the  
          Whittier Police Department. Detective Lane was an 11-year  
          veteran who was shot and killed in the line of duty on December  
          13, 1979.  Detective Pierce was nine-year veteran who was  
          assaulted in the line of duty and died eight months later, on  
          May 18, 1977, as a result of his injuries.
