Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 63—Relative to United States Korean War Veterans Day.

ACR 63, as introduced, Nestande. United States Korean War Veterans Day.

This bill would recognize June 25, 2013, and every June 25th thereafter as United States Korean War Veterans Day.

P1    1WHEREAS, The Korean War was initiated by the North Korean
2People’s Army on June 25, 1950, at 4:30 a.m., when it crossed the
338th Parallel and invaded the Republic of Korea with 135,000
4soldiers; and

5WHEREAS, Harry S. Truman, President of the United States
6of America, ordered the United States Army’s 24th Infantry
7Division to be deployed to South Korea to repulse the invaders;
8and

9WHEREAS, The officers and enlisted personnel assigned to the
10United States Army’s 24th Infantry Division engaged the North
11Korean People’s Army on July 5, 1950, just 10 short days after
12the initial invasion; and

13WHEREAS, The men and women of the California National
14Guard, the United States Army, the United States Marine Corps,
15the United States Navy, the United States Air Force, and the United
P2    1States Coast Guard fought with valor, gallantry, and distinction to
2rebuff and repel the North Korean invaders and their allies from
3the People’s Republic of China; and

4WHEREAS, The men and women of the United States Armed
5Forces and the South Korean Armed Forces were joined in fierce
6combat by many allied nations under the banner of the North
7Atlantic Treaty Organization; and

8WHEREAS, Thirty-three thousand six hundred eighty-six
9members of the United States Armed Forces died in battle during
10the 36 months the war raged, another 8,176 were declared missing
11in action, and thousands more were wounded by enemy fire, and
12some 2,611 Californians died in the fierce fighting that was the
13Korean War; and

14WHEREAS, June 25, 2013, will mark the 60th anniversary of
15the beginning of the Korean War and it is vital to recognize this
16war and these warriors who stopped the spread of communist
17aggression and communism into South Korea; now, therefore, be
18it

19Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
20thereof concurring,
That June 25, 2013, and every June 25th
21thereafter, shall be known in the State of California, its counties,
22and its cities as United States Korean War Veterans Day in formal
23recognition by this state of the patriotism, valor, fidelity, and
24sacrifices of the members of the California National Guard, the
25United States Army, the United States Marines, the United States
26Navy, the United States Coast Guard, and federal and state reserve
27personnel; and be it further

28Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
29of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
