Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 63—Relative to United States Korean War Veterans Day.

ACR 63, as amended, Nestande. United States Korean War Veterans Day.

This bill would recognize June 25, 2013, and every June 25th thereafter as United States Korean War Veterans Day.

P1    1WHEREAS, The Korean War was initiated by the North Korean
2People’s Army on June 25, 1950, at 4:30 a.m., when it crossed the
P1    138th Parallel and invaded the Republic of Korea with 135,000
2soldiers; and

3WHEREAS, Harry S. Truman, President of the United States
4of America, ordered the United States Army’s 24th Infantry
5Division to be deployed to South Korea to repulse the invaders;
6and

7WHEREAS, The officers and enlisted personnel assigned to the
8United States Army’s 24th Infantry Division engaged the North
9Korean People’s Army on July 5, 1950, just 10 short days after
10the initial invasion; and

11WHEREAS, The men and women of the California National
12Guard, the United States Army, the United States Marine Corps,
13the United States Navy, the United States Air Force, and the United
14States Coast Guard fought with valor, gallantry, and distinction to
15rebuff and repel the North Korean invaders and their allies from
16the People’s Republic of China; and

17WHEREAS, The men and women of the United States Armed
18Forces and the South Korean Armed Forces were joined in fierce
19combat by many allied nations under the banner of the North
20Atlantic Treaty Organization; and

21WHEREAS, Thirty-three thousand six hundred eighty-six
22members of the United States Armed Forces died in battle during
23the 36 months the war raged, another 8,176 were declared missing
24in action, and thousands more were wounded by enemy fire, and
25some 2,611 Californians died in the fierce fighting that was the
26Korean War; and

27WHEREAS, June 25, 2013, will mark the 60th anniversary of
28the beginning of the Korean War and it is vital to recognize this
29war and these warriors who stopped the spread of communist
30aggression and communism into South Korea; now, therefore, be
31it

32Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
33thereof concurring,
That June 25, 2013, and every June 25th
34thereafter, shall be known in the State of California, its counties,
35and its cities as United States Korean War Veterans Day in formal
36recognition by this state of the patriotism, valor, fidelity, and
37sacrifices of the members of the California National Guard, the
38United States Army, the United States Marines, the United States
39Navy, the United States Coast Guard, and federal and state reserve
40personnel; and be it further

P3    1Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
2of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
