Highway.
ANALYSIS : This resolution is a tribute to the life of

enjoyed participating in sports and outdoor recreational
activities. Detective MacKay began his career in public service
on his 21st birthday, when he graduated from the San Bernardino
County Sheriff's Department Academy and became a Deputy Sheriff.
He was soon promoted to Detective, and served in that capacity
at stations in Twin Peaks, Big Bear, and Yucaipa. During his
career, Detective MacKay earned five California Highway Patrol
10851 Awards and three Commander's Awards.
At the age of 35, Detective MacKay died on February 12, 2013,
when he was shot and killed by Christopher Dorner during the
manhunt for the rogue ex-police officer in the mountains near
Big Bear Lake. Detective MacKay volunteered to help with the
manhunt because he was so familiar with the terrain. He is
survived by his wife, stepdaughter Kaitlyn and son Cayden, and a
host of other extended family members and friends.
This resolution designates the portion of State Route 38 between
post miles 24 and 29 in San Bernardino County as the "Detective
Jeremiah MacKay Memorial Highway." The resolution further
requests that the Department of Transportation erect appropriate
signs upon receiving donations from non-state sources to cover
the costs.
