SUBJECT : CHP Officer Dean Esquibel Memorial Bridge

DIGEST : This resolution names the Cross Creek Bridge on State
Route (SR) 198 in Kings County as the CHP Officer Dean Esquibel
Memorial Bridge.
ANALYSIS : The author introduced this resolution as a tribute
to the life of Officer Dean Esquibel, a dedicated member of the
CHP who died from injuries sustained while providing backup in a
high-speed pursuit of a fleeing motorcyclist.
Background on Officer Dean Esquibel . CHP Officer Dean Esquibel
grew up in Orosi, California, where graduated from Orosi High
School in 1980. Upon graduation, Officer Esquibel entered the
police academy and then began working for the Orange Cove Police

Department. In 1984, Officer Esquibel began working for the CHP
and was assigned to the Hanford Area Office.
At the age of 23, Officer Esquibel died on August 21, 1985, from
injuries sustained while providing backup in a high-speed
pursuit of a fleeing motorcyclist on SR 198. He is survived by
his wife and son, as well as a host of other extended family
members and friends.
This resolution designates the Cross Creek Bridge on SR 198 in
Kings County as the "CHP Officer Dean Esquibel Memorial Bridge."
This resolution further requests that the Department of
Transportation erect appropriate signs upon receiving donations
from non-state sources to cover the costs.
