                        ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORTATION
                               Bonnie Lowenthal, Chair
                   ACR 70 (Chesbro) - As Introduced: June 26, 2013

SUBJECT : CHP Officer Kenneth E. Marshal Memorial Interchange

SUMMARY : Designates the interchange at United States (U.S.)
Route 101 and State Route (SR) 200 in Humboldt County as the
"CHP Officer Kenneth E. Marshall Memorial Interchange."
          Specifically, this bill :

1)Recounts the lifetime accomplishments of California Highway
            Patrol Officer Kenneth Edmund Marshall.

2)Designates the interchange at U.S. Route 101 and SR 200 in
Humboldt County as the CHP Officer Kenneth E. Marshall
            Memorial Interchange.

3)Requests that the California Department of Transportation
(Caltrans) determine the cost of appropriate signs, consistent
with the signing requirements for the state highway system,
showing the special designation and, upon receiving donations
from non-state sources covering that cost, to erect those
            signs.

EXISTING LAW : Assigns Caltrans the responsibility of operating
and maintaining state highways. This includes the installation
          and maintenance of highway signs.

FISCAL EFFECT : Costs to make and erect the appropriate signs
          are covered by donations.

COMMENTS : Born in Oregon, Officer Marshall ultimately moved to
California, attended Sacramento State University, and graduated
from the California Highway Patrol Academy in 1963. Five years
into his service, Officer Marshal lost his life serving in the
line of duty while pursuing a speeding motorist. This bill
designating the interchange at US Route 101 and SR 200 in honor
of Officer Kenneth E. Marshall acknowledges the significant role
Officer Marshall played in Humboldt County.
