           DIGEST  :    This resolution designates an interchange on U.S.  
          Route 101 in Humboldt County as the CHP Officer Kenneth E.  
          Marshall Memorial Interchange.

           ANALYSIS  :    

           Purpose of the resolution  .  By naming an interchange for Officer  
          Marshall, this resolution seeks to memorialize his sacrifice in  
          the line of duty.

           Officer Marshall's contributions  .  Born in Vernonia, Oregon,  
          Kenneth Edmund Marshall graduated from Napa High School and  
          attended California State University, Sacramento.  Officer

          Marshall graduated from the California Highway Patrol Academy in  
          1963 and served in the Los Angeles and San Leandro Areas before  
          transferring to the Humboldt Area, where he spent the remainder  
          of his career.  On January 9, 1968, Officer Marshall died in the  
          line of duty from an automobile accident while pursuing a  
          speeding motorist on U.S. Route 101 in Humboldt County.  

          This resolution designates the interchange at U.S. Route 101 and  
          State Route 200 in Humboldt County as the CHP Officer Kenneth E.  
          Marshall Memorial Interchange.  The resolution further requests  
          that the Department of Transportation erect appropriate signs  
          upon receiving donations from non-state sources to cover the  
          costs.
