Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 87—Relative to Ronald Reagan Day.

ACR 87, as introduced, Wilk. Ronald Reagan Day.

This measure would declare February 6, 2014, as Ronald Reagan Day.

P1    1WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of humble
2background, worked throughout his life serving freedom and
3advancing the public good, having been employed as an entertainer,
4union leader, corporate spokesman, Governor of California, and
5President of the United States; and

6WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan is the only person in California’s
7163-year history to be elected to the offices of Governor of the
8State of California and President of the United States; and

9WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction
10for two terms as the 40th President of the United States of America,
11the second of which he earned the confidence of three-fifths of the
12electorate in 1984, emerging victorious in 49 of the 50 states in
13the general election--a record unsurpassed in the history of
14American presidential elections; and

P2    1WHEREAS, In 1981, when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated
2President, he inherited a disillusioned nation shackled by rampant
3inflation and high unemployment; and

4WHEREAS, President Reagan’s commitment to the nation’s
5children helped lower crime and drug use in our neighborhoods;
6and

7WHEREAS, President Reagan’s commitment to our Armed
8Forces contributed to the restoration of pride in America, her
9values, and those cherished by the free world, and prepared
10America’s Armed Forces to meet 21st century challenges; and

11WHEREAS, President Reagan’s vision of “peace through
12strength” led to the end of the Cold War; and

13WHEREAS, February 6, 2014, will be the 103rd anniversary
14of Ronald Reagan’s birth, and the tenth since his passing; now,
15therefore, be it

16Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
17thereof concurring,
That the Legislature takes great pride in
18honoring Ronald Reagan for his many contributions to our country
19and in celebrating his life; and be it further

20Resolved, That the Legislature recognizes February 6, 2014, as
21Ronald Reagan Day; and be it further

22Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
23of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
